I bought a PS5 like 3 or 4 months ago from Costco… I’ve not opened the box or anything (for one reason or another) + I’ve got a rig, n am in the middle of putting a new one together) … I don’t mind not plugging it(PS5) in for another 3 to 4 months.

Is it a “boycott” if they raise their prices to unreasonable levels and everyone independently decides that that is too much?

Probably; because don’t you still have to actively/ manually unsubscribe?

i’m just saying it seems silly to me to boycott a price increase. That isn’t a boycott. That’s just being a consumer and deciding that the value isn’t worth the price anymore.

          verb

So then I guess that would be no. Withdrawing relations due to it not being a viable financial option is not boycotting.

Thank you for understanding my meaning. Sorry if this is coming off as pedantic, @zevlan! It just strikes me as odd phrasing lol. Saying “This is too much money for me/not worth it to me anymore because xyz. What do y’all think?” would be how I would phrase this post. “Boycott” is usually used in the context of a political choice. I, for example, am boycotting Activision-Blizzard as a personal choice bc of the sexual harassment shit that they never really answered for. I really WANT to play Diablo 4, and the price is a good value to me, but still I don’t buy it because I am boycotting. They could sell it for $5 and I still would not buy it, until I am convinced that they have actually done something about that harassment.

That’s the difference. If people stop buying because it’s not worth the price vs them stopping buying because they think the company is charging more than is reasonably expected.

I’m not boycotting, I just don’t think the higher tiers are a good value anymore. I might not get the Essentials package either, because the value is questionable. But if I stopped buying it because I thought the company was price gouging, then that would be boycotting.

            That’s called free market capitalism.

A boycott is usually based on moral objections to a company, not financial. Obviously Sony has interest in making money — increasing prices of a video game subscription is not morally objectionable. Choosing to not purchase a product based on its market value vs perceived value is basic supply and demand.

If you were to not purchase a PS Plus subscription based on employee wages, or environmental impact of manufacturing, or something like that, then that would be a boycott. Objection to price is capitalism.

Not trying to argue that Sony is right to increase prices like that, just calling it what it is.

Aha yes, the mythical “Free Market” Capitalism, my favourite unicorn. The stories of it sound beautiful, if at times brutal and uncaring, and people claim to have seen it… Alas it’s never been observed in human history.

              Such a shame.

I think 🤔 there has been capitalism and there’s been “cut throat” capitalism; introduced to the world by non other then US of A.

My boycotting them is this; " **** You SONY for being a bunch of greedy ku***"
