The argument is that corporations do what they want, often not because we want to buy their stuff, but because:
Here’s some examples:
Yes, you could choose to live off of the grid and walk everywhere and grow your own crops, but that’s hardly a choice. And it doesn’t have to be that way. Shitty people at the top of these companies make ungodly money by screwing everyone else over anyway they can, regardless of the cost to humanity. That is the point.
I didn’t count handhelds. Seems like a different-ish market. Interestingly, I thought the game gear was way better than original game boy… Except it absolutely ate batteries.
I’ve never heard of the N64 DD. The 90’s had so many weird consoles.
Seconded.
Dreamcast was solid. Decent games. Sega just had their collective heads up their assess. No one had confidence in their consoles. Genesis was a surprise smash hit…then Sega just spewed out consoles; 32x, Sega CD, mega drive, Saturn… Probably more. In that same time span Nintendo released…N64.
No one wants to buy a console that is outdated in a year or two. That game library is tiny and none of your friends have it.
Build a winner, milk it. Release another winner right as the previous one is winding down. Nintendo has mastered that formula.
Well that’s terrifying… I might watch the show if it ever comes out
Not sure what changes, but it’s scary how much Google controls. Even if we just broke off YouTube from them, that would be a big deal.
Ideally we would split their search engine, YouTube, and chrome each into two competing companies. (Google A, Google B, Chrome A, Chrome B, YouTube A, YouTube B)
Because Google has so much power they can make changes that will break search results, websites, and browsers if you don’t accept changes that are beneficial to them.
The crazy thing is that you don’t need to cherry pick quotes or take them out of context to make him look like an idiot.
Listen to pretty much any interview or speech and he says something that is clearly idiotic, evil, or a blatant lie. Most likely all three… Repeatedly.
I get that Fox News is a hell of a drug, but just hearing this dipshit speak should shatter the illusion. The unwavering support is mind boggling.
Feels like that blatant violation should be prison time for anyone involved.
Creepy. And I learned something. Reminds me of another comic strip that cracked me up. The gist:
God said to the insects “you may each pick three traits.” The millipede said, “I want legs!” The centipede agreed. God nodded. “And for your second trait?” The millipede smiled brightly and said “More legs!” The centipede request the same. God asked for their final request. “More legs!” The millipede shouted smiling even brighter The centipede gave a sinister grin and growled. “Teeth.”
Because this asshat isn’t a journalist. He makes shit up and spins it how he’s paid to. He has zero morals, zero integrity, and is less reputable than the boy who cried wolf.
There’s been plenty of leaks of him flat out lying on Fox. Combine that with Putin also being a lying psycho, and there’s really no good or truth that can come from this interview. Only propaganda and misinformation.
And Google is bringing AI to private text messages. It will read all of your previous messages. On iOS? Better hope nothing important was said to anyone with an Android phone (not that I trust Apple either).
The implications are terrifying. Nudes, private conversations, passwords, identifying information like your home address, etc. There’s a lot of scary scenarios. I also predict that Bard becomes closet racist real fast.
We need strict data privacy laws with teeth. Otherwise corporations will just keep rolling out poorly tested, unsecured, software without a second thought.
AI can do some cool stuff, but the leaks, misinformation, fraud, etc., scare the shit out of me. With a Congress aged ~60 years old on average, I’m not counting on them to regulate or even understand any of this.
By law, anything should be a one click to cancel service, instead of the maze they send you through.
Xbox live, gyms, etc.
I feel like that last Ho for Santa should be in the empty overlap…
Trustworthiness in the platform is dead. Musk uses it like his personal sandbox. Advertisers are quickly pulling out. I don’t know how they’re possibly financially staying afloat.
Twitter was so engrained in communication that it’s difficult for many users to leave (sports, etc.). So, I agree, it’s not dead yet, but Musk seems to be doing everything he can to poison the well.
I can’t imagine how removing the communications department from a company that specializes in communication seemed like a good idea…
My Linux knowledge isn’t what it used to be, but I believe you can easily make a thumb drive with a bootable distro. I would recommend taking whatever you choose for a test drive before you wipe a working system. That way you can see if there’s any weird stuff that doesn’t want to work.
Actual fascists are just as bad as people who want social change? Fascism is a very real thing. The leading Republican candidate has frequently made very literal threats, and has already supported one attempted coup.
In absolutely no way are the two parties “just as dangerous”.
Whoosh. Right over my slow head
Waiting tables at a casual+ restaurant? Yes. The ratio is mostly girls- in their 20s. The turnover is high, so there’s always new people coming in. You’re around each other constantly so it’s not awkward to strike up a conversation. Plus the parties were pretty fun.
I don’t think you’d have the same luck at McDonald’s, or in management, but serving at decent places I always had good luck.
I was trying to find active users since he took over. But the only numbers I can find are numbers provided by Musk, who is a well known liar.
I know Lemmy and Mastodon are niche communities, and that people put up with a lot of garbage from Big Tech, but I have to believe that a lot of users have left Twitter, or least that usage is down. I also assume bots are way up, because Musk wants his numbers to be up regardless of the source (save for people with an opposing opinion).
Hopefully Musk’s shitty little empire crumbles…soon.
