  • I am about to share way way too much. So I figure I must be fairly attractive for a male, though I don’t consider myself all that attractive. I have been hit on by both women and gay men. Most men on this planet have not, from either.

Here’s the thing that women don’t get. Even for someone like me it’s few and far between. Like once a decade rare. And the few times it has happened, it did feel pretty good.

Imagine pining for that. I’m in a happy marriage, but I could imagine how lonely it would be to never have it happen ever.

So the saddest thing about her response that a straight man is jealous of the attention a 23 year old woman gets truly shows her ignorance. Because, many men would want that. Even if it’s just to get a compliment once.

It’s a sad world we live in.

  • This is true, China doesn’t care. I’m actually confused about the narrative around China wanting to take TSMC. Even the most cursory glace at the situation should make it obvious this isn’t one of China’s goals. This is because these EUV machines don’t work on magic. They work on knowledge and spare parts. Even in the unlikely scenario that China somehow invades and these machines aren’t destroyed by either China or the retreating Taiwanese, they aren’t going to be able to operate them and more importantly get spare parts to keep them running. They’d at best be used to disassemble and review.

All of this ignores the fact that China is already at 5nm using their own equipment anyway. For the extra 2nm of difference between TSMC’s 3nm to SMIC’s 5nm isn’t large enough to rationalize anything close to what they’re talking about. It’d be cheaper to just keep subsidizing the Chinese industry rather than invading.

All of this is to say, that China may or may not invade, but TSMC isn’t on the list of reasons. If anything, it’s on the opposite end. China has a LOT of motivation to bomb TSMC to prevent the west from getting chips as if TSMC is gone, then suddenly Chinese 5nm are pretty much the most advanced chips in the world (besides Samsung). Thus, the real conclusion is we need to invest in Samsung, which surprisingly isn’t happening for whatever reason is beyond me.

  • That doesn’t really work. For example, driving is the same action. I do this action over and over again. However, I drive to vastly different destinations. I’m not in fact doing the same thing over and over even though the same action is being done.

Similarly an algorithm will give vastly different results based on the inputs I give it. Saying it’s the same formula with different inputs would be very incorrect.

  • The funny thing is that people think China would disagree with that map, yet that map is exactly what China claims. In fact, Taiwan claims far more than that map, so the only source of disagreement technically would be on the naming. However, China, or Sino wouldn’t actually care. You think China is the name they gave themselves or even use or say that term? That was a Western nomenclature put upon them in the first place.

China’s largest gas company is called sinopec, not chinapec. So that weird name change is meaningless to them. If that made the west happy so they could take over Taiwan, they’d do it in a heartbeat.

  • What you’re saying is true, but misses the point. Yes, larger content creators can get sources of income besides advertising. However, the whole point of youtube is to let anyone big or small get started. Small creators can’t get started if they don’t have a source of income. So that’s where the advertising comes in.

In a sense, twitch builds upon the success of youtube. They took large creators who could get the $5 subscriptions on to their platform. But this only increased the need for youtube to court advertisers.

In a world without advertisers paying content creators, our options would be severely limited. We want small upstarts and cutting off their source of income is a terrible idea.

Unfortunately, our world requires the necessity evil of youtube doing whatever it can to stop ad blocker. No matter how nice it is. And if you as a user are satisficed with the limited content from large creators, as you said, there’s always twitch.

  • I don’t think we have differing opinions actually. I’m saying there have been many countries that have stated they do not see the stuff USA talks about to make it reasonable to ban. They all shut up and followed the US after 2020 and individuals even started to say Huawei is more evil than American companies. Again without any particular evidence.

Would I argue that Google and Huawei do similar and equally bad things, yes absolutely. I’m just tired of people attacking Huawei and saying they’re worse than American corps. That’s all I’m trying to say here.

  • That’s because the accusations and bans were on telco equipment. Hell, you can still buy Huawei phones on Amazon if you wanted to in the states. You don’t seem to understand what all the propaganda hub bub was about to begin with.

    *Edit:

I think you’re completely misunderstanding my position. My position is Huawei is considered worse than google because of US propaganda. Not that Huawei is better than google. And that propaganda is not substantiated.

  • Of course. That’s because you blindly believe the country that wiretaps it’s allies, like Merkle in Germany. That spies on its citizens using systems like Prism. Arrests journalists who report this like Assange. Yeah, those guys are totally who you should believe. And no, Huawei still hasn’t had any evidence against them, only conjecture from that country.

And I know what you’re going to say. You’re going to call me naive and that Huawei definitely does it. But yes go on trusting the country with a laundry list of violations.

  • They absolutely love it and are asking China to help them implement it in their own countries. What people don’t understand is this isn’t about stopping or oppressing the Islamic religion. What China is doing is turning the Islamic religion into a state controlled apparatus. They weren’t destroying mosques, they were rebuilding them in China’s image.

They didn’t stop people from worshipping Allah, they made it so that if you worship Allah, you’re also worshiping the CCP. For all of that, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are incredibly jealous. They too want the Islamic religion to become a state controlled enterprise. What China is creating is a state controlled religion. One that all the other Islamic states want a taste of. This is why Turkey is quiet on this. While part of NATO, Turkey wants a piece of that action too.
