Good thing I was already de facto boycotting EA games. Not necessarily out of conviction, but because all of them are total shit and simply not worth my time anyway, especially compared to what else is on offer elsewhere. Haven’t even started on BG3 yet.
It’s also a tried and true strategy that brought Microsoft to the spot it is now. Evil and corrupt, but very effective. Only eee (embrace, extend, extinguish) is even more insidious because it requires companies to play the long con.
Then again in 2024, I automatically assume “con” first until I see evidence to the contrary.
Oh absolutely. I’m not conceited enough to imagine Valve is developing games for me or that I’m entitled to anything. Just venting my personal disappointment with their choice. I still consider them the cream of the crop in game and hardware development.
Whatever it ends up being, I’m not interested. Never cared for competitive gaming. Sad that Valve has decided to use part of their enormous talent pool for, well, this while almost any genre would’ve been better.
Also, this is already a highly saturated niche. I don’t doubt Valve’s technical prowess and knowhow to develop a game that can surpass all the other ones in quality, but a gilded turd is still a turd under that gold leaf, even if it’s technically the best turd in the world.

No, but there’s a big difference between a societal paradigm that overrides natural human compassion with, well, the exact opposite and then incentivizes the entire population to participate, or a society in which greed is greed rather than some overarching be-all end-all goal.
Unfortunately, being firmly from a working class family, I can guarantee you that we plebs struggle with the exact same things + actual poverty (not being able to go to a doctor,…).
I wish I could say we’re magically happy for every crumb thrown our way, but we all realize we are scrawny mice at best while the world is ruled by cats.

I guess my mistake was simply not being attentive enough to the road. I wasn’t speeding, I wasn’t under the influence (it happened as I was trying to pull in to my work’s driveway), I wasn’t sleepy or tired. I simply somehow did not see the motorcycle coming towards me. There was no malice involved, nor negligence, but it’s still my responsibility to pay attention to all hazards on the road and act accordingly.
What if my mistakes directly lead to someone else getting hurt?
Cfr I clipped a motorcycle with my car a few years ago. Guy broke his leg and totaled the bike and my car. You better believe I’ll feel guilty for that one until the day I die.
A few years ago, mid pandemic, I started collecting ancient coins. I was really passionate about it even thinking about finding ways to make it a small after-hours job or such, but I’ve since run into a few walls and have subsequently lost my drive. For example, I wanted to take very high resolution pictures of the coins and then compose a catalog of sorts, but while I have all the gear that I need (camera with a macro lens) my shots keep coming out wrong and I’ve since kind of given up on the idea altogether.
My entire life is one long succession of passionately started projects that got abandoned either midway or after heavy setbacks. If I ever find one that brings me lasting happiness, I’ll gladly share it, but for now I’m just as much on the lookout as you are.
