We wish… the good/bad neighbour analogy is very apt here; whatever happens in the USA spills over here all the time.
We are about to enter our own Trump shit show when PP is elected next year.

For me personally, it was all about balance.
15 years ago, Gmail/Inbox was a great email client, the domain was great and popular (so no need to spell it out for people) and I would “pay” by getting ads based on my emails read by a bot.
Now Gmail is a terrible email client, the best updates are ridiculous things like moving buttons around and it takes Google years to roll out. The thing loses emails, mislabels and misclassifies stuff and the rules work for a week then blow up. On top of that, google is now basically a proctologist considering how far up my ass they want to go
The balance is broken… Google now officially sucks (IMO)
Pirating implies some knowledge and effort some people may not have or want to get into
Paid Legal services are so enshitified some people may think they are getting ripped up
Paid illegal services are often HUGE bang for buck value (no enshitification, no limits, no nonsense and often better customer service)
I was planning to use it to drive one of my TVs, so basically to be an HDTV player.
The Raspbian OS was fine, the Emby client would not start (segmentation fault) and the performance on the web client was not great.
Now on Android, Emby client runs pretty well (better than on the FireTV sticks I am trying to replace) but I could not get Google Play working (yet) which left me without F1TV (the only “other” vid app I care about for now to run on the TV)

In America, the government intervention is whatever corporations pay politicians to say and do… it’s actually worse than pure Capitalism and they managed, through regulatory capture, to turn the government against the people or competition for their paymasters
Got my last Pi (RBP5) to try to set up a simple TV player under linux… unfortunately the performance was shit… had to go with Android and it’s barely OK (bang for buck)
With the IPO I expect RBP are going to become more expensive and significantly enshitified… so that’s that
I understood this joke… then felt sad because I felt old… then felt mad because I miss my manual cars…
Ok, my only goal in replying to you was to point out that, your surprise is based on some fake, very easily manipulable information… They do this manipulation in part to portrait themselves as something they are not, which is part of the PR strategy whether it works on you or not… that is all
if it makes you change your opinion of them but not enough to either pay them or stop paying them, then it means nothing to them
you need to buy a very expensive phone to “enjoy” the sale
if it makes you not buy into their subscription, then it’s poor PR… if it makes you think they are not greedy fucks, then it’s good PR
It would be like, I don’t know, realizing after you’ve paid all of your bills and groceries everything you have $300 at the end of the month. Not a lot of wiggle room
Well that depends… if I have only $300 at the end of the month but I have already paid every bill and allocated $1,000,000 for entertainment, another $1,000,000 for personal expenses, another $1,000,000 for pet services, etc etc etc… the $300 left mean nothing… why do I need “wiggle room” when I can not just wiggle but literally run in every direction until I get tired and still not hit any limits?
The relatively small profit margin is a PR strategy… one that is working well on you giving you the false impression the company is “tight” when in reality, they are milking every bit of it before you get to that figure.
Who cares what the “company” does when, as CEO, you rake almost $400 MILLION a year

PS: and this is while receiving “no salary” (which they sell as if they were running a charity and meager $1.4 million in “other” compensation
Neither does ChatGPT… they over-hyped this tech so hard, I am afraid they are makers of their own demise…
I don’t think it’s about assuming anything… it’s about not burdening the consumer with regulating industry when it is clearly impossible to do so.
OP (of this thread) pitches Apple as an alternative… do you want to help artist a tad while also assisting a multi billion dollar company to continue to squash any possible ownership and right-to-repair chance the consumers has?..
There isn’t ONE large corporation that has not shown they would kill people if that made them money… so no, the consumer cannot, in practice, “vote with their wallet” into forcing any corporation anywhere near an ethics “green ground”
In the USA, that boat sailed long ago… most cities are too spread out to pedal anywhere
It was… I was accessing my work email which unfortunately runs on Exchange… having said that, sorry, either support whatever crap MS puts or out don’t… “losing” emails cannot be part of a ready-for-public email client
Now, from what I read at the time, it was not “Owl for exchange”'s bug, it was Thunderbird. It apparently happens with other email sources as well, however you can “repair” your mailbox to get them back when you notice
