  • I used a tutorial book to help me create a python text game, then I rewrote it and have been casually adding things. I sort of want to re-write it again in Java to see how it compares, I’m more comfortable with java so I’m hoping I could focus more on system design. I’m noticing that the more I add to the base game the more spread out my solutions become, so addressing that is the main interest I have with it.

A new project I’m working on is a simple web scraper. I liked building a lexer/parser in the text game and I think having my own web scraper would be useful.

I’m still learning so I aim for projects I can ‘finish’ in 2-4 weeks.

Oh and a windows notepad that looks like the windows notepad except more customizable. I like the idea of building utilities.

  • I made the argument that it’s expensive but it was more based on the idea that I can get a cheapo used console with a few games and that’ll do me for a whole generation. That and I think that PC gaming has a deeper void to get sucked into (mainly keyboards and monitors)

But now a couple weeks later and I realize that I really enjoy my crappy business desktop PC and I could see building a PC in the future.

They each have their advantages. When I go to a friends house we play console. At home I’d rather play PC, if I had the choice.

This is the one I’m thinking of. Love the concept. Potential challenge is that in Canada things, in particular, shipping is expensive. I’m pretty broke right now so my inclination is to save money over the long run and not be wasteful.

I’m not a phone person though. Useful device but not something that takes up much of my day to day time.

  • Damn 19C! My apartment is 24 right now and it feels cozy. When I bake it gets to 27. Without heat in the winter it hovers around 16 inside.

I’d consider going somewhere with more extreme day/night cycles like the Northwest territories, but within Canada I’m basically happy where I am. I like the super long days in the summer and I’m also ok living in the dark most of the winter as long as I can stay active.

Not yet but one day. If I could get a phone and keep it for 20 years (with repairs/upgraded parts) then I’d switch.

If apple removes the plug then i’ll start considering the other options when my current phone becomes unusable. Until then it’s too easy to buy an old iphone and hold onto it for 6 years.

No it’s just another video game. The core competency of this developer is dialogue interaction or dialogue puzzles that help create a sense of immersion in a world with lots of RPG mechanics. It is more or less in line with their previous games. There are quite a few tacked on features.

There’s so much media coverage of video games these days I think it makes it hard to just have them stand on their own merits without having every detail examined and compared across every game that has ever released. People who are spending the money on video games as entertainment will be entertained, but this isn’t a genre defining product and it isn’t a flop either.
