At the time of typing this, the goal was dropped to $50k USD (from $56k), extended the campaign to January 30th, and is 99% funded.
I know, reddit bad, but the creator is active in the r/SteamDeck discord server if anyone has questions.
Edit/update: project is now fully funded!!!
I do prefer 16:10 but I broke my screen and tge deck has been in a drawer so I’ll try it out. I’ve also been using an oled on the desktop and its so suffer and misery using anything else now.
Still don’t understand this. For $140 you’re 1/3 the way to a brand new OLED deck and even closer to a refurbished one. And you have an LCD model you can sell to make up the difference.
For me: I want to do a shell swap, upgrade the SSD, and change out the buttons and thumb sticks. I may as well upgrade the screen at the same time. I was initially looking at the deck HD screen, but that mod seems to be in a really bad place since they shut down their email servers, and customer support is non-existent even on their discord server. Then I saw this and decided that it was worth the $40 more than it would be to buy just a replacement screen from iFixit. I have pressure damage on my LCD screen and I want to keep this particular piece of machinery as long as possible.
A third of the way is still not all of the way. You’d still save a few hundred, especially if you didn’t buy the base LCD model. For many people, this makes sense.
I want to upgrade my steam deck, but I am not big on upping the resolution, nor would I choose to go to 16:9 over 16:10. Add to that the 140$ price point (which is probably a totally fair price, just not worth it for me), and this is a hard pass for me.
That’s completely fair. Not every mod for the steam deck is for everyone.
Install custom BIOS? Nahhhh I don’t think so.
It’s not that bad really it’s actually fairly easy people have been doing it for awhile for overclocking
Probably would be good for business to manage EU shipping…
The reason it isn’t available in the EU, yet, is that it isn’t CE certified.
I know. But why?
The creator mentioned why on the discord mentioned in the post above. The jist of the reasoning is cost.
But I don’t get it. How many steam decks have been sold in Europe? How can that not be a market for them? Getting the CE label later may work out, but don’t they need the money now?
