pleez lets BOYCOTT SONY plz
I bought a PS5 like 3 or 4 months ago from Costco… I’ve not opened the box or anything (for one reason or another) + I’ve got a rig, n am in the middle of putting a new one together) … I don’t mind not plugging it(PS5) in for another 3 to 4 months.
Shame 😔 on Sony
I’ll play my xiv (trial) account on PC 😂😆
I’m sure this will get some downvotes, but how is buying a PS5 to let it sit considered a boycott? You literally handed them money for air at this point.
I understand compulsion purchasing as I suffer from it myself, but purchasing a whole console to let it sit is a whole nother level and just adds to the entire problem you’re complaining about.

It’s not just Sony. That’s how game consoles work. They’re sold at a loss so they can make it up with game sales.
Sony and Microsoft do this yeah, but I’m pretty sure Nintendo consoles are sold at a profit.

I was hoping to play it; but life happened; " You don’t know Me ! " :) :P
Edit: was not compulsive; I was trying to save some money. And perhaps* I can still return it.

You should return the PS5 and just do PC gaming. Maybe get a steam deck or another portable.
I might, with costco it’s probably still returnable.
Maybe because it’s unopened but I think they limit electronics to 90 days now due to abuse of their return policies.
Well I can always resell it I guess… Or at leastin the future for profit.
The steam deck is fire
People are outraged about the price increase, but I feel like the real issue for many is the lack of a basic tier for those of us who just want online play and cloud save. I’m not interested in the free monthly games because my time is limited and I’m usually very picky about the games I play. 90% of the free PS+ games I don’t end up touching.
basic tier for those of us who just want online play and cloud save
That should be free. It’s when people should have started boycotting Sony (and Microsoft and Nintendo) now it’s just too late
Well, not too late though. I stopped Xbox live when it’s value is not up to par. I also won’t renew plus since it doesn’t make sense anymore.(actually review my ps collection in game library and it’s full of games I don’t actually play.)
I don’t play multiplayer on PS so mostly paying for free games and cloud saves.(ps3 era was really good, ps4 starts to go meh, ps5 pretty much shit tier all around especially after the new higher tiers.)
So might as well stop.(I never paid for Nintendo online.)
It’s too late. Just because you stopped paying for Xbox live does not means Microsoft is going to make it free.
People should not have accepted pay for online play but since is widespread, it’s too late to revert it
"PlayStation Plus Essential 12-Month Subscription will be Increasing from 60 to 80 dollars
PlayStation Plus Extra 12-Month Subscription will be Increasing from 100 to 135 dollars
PlayStation Plus Premium 12-Month Subscription will be Increasing from 120 to 160 dollars" Article
Unsubscribe today to not have an increase. You’ll save money, time, face and planet earf 🌎 (And SONY itself in the long run). But RN 😁 SONY is in need of a spank.
That’s what I will do 👍
You Go !! I Believe in You Wijnie!! Let’s all get some sunlight together !! ;P
I’ve cancelled this morning - I played so few of the included games that it’s probably cheaper to just buy them outright
Is it a “boycott” if they raise their prices to unreasonable levels and everyone independently decides that that is too much?
Probably; because don’t you still have to actively/ manually unsubscribe?
i’m just saying it seems silly to me to boycott a price increase. That isn’t a boycott. That’s just being a consumer and deciding that the value isn’t worth the price anymore.
boy·cott
/ˈboiˌkät/
verb
withdraw from commercial or social relations with (a country, organization, or person) as a punishment or protest.
“We will boycott SONY which took part in the sub increase scheme”
So then I guess that would be no. Withdrawing relations due to it not being a viable financial option is not boycotting.
Thank you for understanding my meaning. Sorry if this is coming off as pedantic, @zevlan! It just strikes me as odd phrasing lol. Saying “This is too much money for me/not worth it to me anymore because xyz. What do y’all think?” would be how I would phrase this post. “Boycott” is usually used in the context of a political choice. I, for example, am boycotting Activision-Blizzard as a personal choice bc of the sexual harassment shit that they never really answered for. I really WANT to play Diablo 4, and the price is a good value to me, but still I don’t buy it because I am boycotting. They could sell it for $5 and I still would not buy it, until I am convinced that they have actually done something about that harassment.
I am boycotting SONY for blatant greed Yo…
Well… When ppl talk about an issue and say; " Enough is Enough" that’s boycotting IMO. I could be wrong and maybe I am.
That’s the difference. If people stop buying because it’s not worth the price vs them stopping buying because they think the company is charging more than is reasonably expected.
I’m not boycotting, I just don’t think the higher tiers are a good value anymore. I might not get the Essentials package either, because the value is questionable. But if I stopped buying it because I thought the company was price gouging, then that would be boycotting.
It’s a boycott if the intent is for Sony to stop being a bunch of prats and keep the more reasonable prices.
That’s called free market capitalism.
A boycott is usually based on moral objections to a company, not financial. Obviously Sony has interest in making money — increasing prices of a video game subscription is not morally objectionable. Choosing to not purchase a product based on its market value vs perceived value is basic supply and demand.
If you were to not purchase a PS Plus subscription based on employee wages, or environmental impact of manufacturing, or something like that, then that would be a boycott. Objection to price is capitalism.
Not trying to argue that Sony is right to increase prices like that, just calling it what it is.
Aha yes, the mythical “Free Market” Capitalism, my favourite unicorn. The stories of it sound beautiful, if at times brutal and uncaring, and people claim to have seen it… Alas it’s never been observed in human history.
Such a shame.
I think 🤔 there has been capitalism and there’s been “cut throat” capitalism; introduced to the world by non other then US of A.
My boycotting them is this; " **** You SONY for being a bunch of greedy ku***"
TY :)

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.
I don’t know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I’m an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It’s not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want PlayStation+, nor will they purchase any of Sony’s games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move. Sony, publicly apologize and cancel your 30% price hike for PS+ or you can kiss your business goodbye.
If you can’t be successful in Japan by being an asshole, how do you explain Nintendo?
It’s a 15 year old copypasta lol
I can’t even keep up with recent copypastas.
Fair! The og was about Square “shooting themselves” in the foot over releasing FFXIII on the 360. It’s one of my favs
Man, a copypasta from three numbered Final Fantasies ago? May as well be an eternity.
Unsub. Easy protest they understand
If your willing to buy a PlayStation and pay the yearly installments to access the internet then by the end of its life cycle you’ve basically bourght a high end PC with money to spend
Chances are if you buy a high-end PC you’ll buy another one (or spend enough on upgrades to cost the same as another one) by the end of the console generation.
And let’s be honest. PC gaming has become ridiculously expensive due to first crypto and now AI.
I paid less for my Xbox Series X in October 2020 than I paid for my 3070Ti - which incidentally still costs more than when I bought it over a year ago.
Console games still cost an arm and a leg, and there’s only a handful of games I actually prefer playing on the couch with a controller, but given the inflated gaming pc prices it’s hard to argue that consoles are “as expensive”.
As a lifelong PC gamer I simply will not pay for online gaming, but Microsoft and Sony will continue to push in that direction as long as people let them.
Console gaming is just easy. No launchers, no installation problems, I know that every game I download to it is going to work. I don’t need to worry about upgrading parts or troubleshooting software.
And really though, with Game Pass I’m not at all worried about game costs. It’s just a non-issue. Anything not on the service, I’ll buy normally.
100% this. I literally support fixing software installations and random crashing/errors all day anyway, sometimes when I get home I want my stuff to just work. I bought a console so I don’t have to worry about why my framerate’s dropping in Elden Ring or whatnot, it’ll be fine and for 600$ less than building an actual PC worth building, a console is a no brainer for me.
The problem with all these ‘pc gaming is more expensive than console’ comments is that they’re always talking about the latest most expensive pc when a lower end one could easily match the latest console generation at a fraction of the price. Nobody really needs a 30k ti series graphics card Unless you’re doing vr or some intensive work. My 1066 that cost me under 200 bucks is plenty to play pretty much all games at a reasonable quality.
I’m not saying this as a console hater. I’m saying this as someone who owns both and has always owned both. I’m not even loyal to any particular pc or console manufacturer. I just buy whatever fits me the best at that particular time.
I mean, you could buy old hardware and find that the newly released game you really wanted to play doesn’t run.
I had planned to skip the 970, but the 1070 “never” came.
Ended up biting the bullet when Just Cause 3 launched and my old AMD GPU was giving me seconds per frame. Sometimes even two digits.
Consoles are more or less static targets and as such the games are optimized for them.
PC will always have cutting edge graphics, but the last couple of console generations haven’t exactly been slouches either. A lot of bang for your buck compared to the GPU market.
It used to be that a mid tier current gen GPU was $300, now it’s $600 for the mid tier last gen.
That’s not adjusted for inflation, just price gouging.
If anything is killing PC gaming that’s the problem. People don’t mind paying extra for a superior experience, especially when it’s a multipurpose machine, but ridiculously expensive GPU’s is tragic.
if it lasts it may lead to the new generations growing up on consoles only due to the price.
On the other hand, Apple really wants to get into the gaming space, so who knows what will happen next?
People have been telling you to game on PC for a while now.
Its pretty much plug and play these days.
It’s still more work to fine tune your settings that simply selecting, performance or quality on console. Lots of us don’t want that agg with every new game.
Many games I play automatically determine pretty reasonable settings. And worst case, you can always lean towards lower settings.
I have been using the same PC with the same hardware for 7 years. I have never had an issue playing the latest games that I wanted to, and I never have to so much as open the settings menu to get the game to run well. It’s literally not an issue.
What games need fine tuning? I suppose some games still come with motion blur and a small field of view by default, but those settings are (hopefully) also available on console. Everything t else is pretty much determined out of the box.
In my experience games will underestimate your hardware to get your more FPS, but you can drag the quality slider one step to the right if you want more graphical fidelity (or to the left for more frames). I usually don’t bother with that shit, though.
That used to be the case like 20 years ago. All games automatically change to the best quality setting based in your pc when you launch them. The only things that MIGHT cause issues are when you have multimonitor setups but that might also be the case for multimonitor console setups so it’s a mute point.
fyi it’s “moot point”, not “mute point”
I just cancelled my premium subscription renewal last night. Get fucked Sony
Wut? Can someone translate the post to English?
Already been doing that for decades. flicks levitating silver PCMR hair
I cancelled my Plus and Xbox Live accounts a couple of years ago when Bungie ganked Destiny 2 and there was no point continuing.
Neither service really seems worth maintaining. Oh the “free” games that either a) you already own or b) weren’t worth playing in the first place? (yawn).
I’ve never understood calling them free when you have to pay for access to them.
It’s like saying watching Netflix is free. You’re paying for the service, how is it free.
Just more marketing bullshit. If a company can convince their clientele they’re being generous, the company has won. They were winning for a long time.
And you have to keep subscribing if you want to keep playing them… Yeah… not free.
with xbox 360 you had to pay for online and didnt get games. for xbox now you have to pay for online but also get games
Free games on PS doesn’t need PS Plus to play online
I was upset when PS4 moved to paid online and never ever paid for PS+, and only got single player exclusives for it. But as time passed saw that I was in the minority and that other people fell in line and paid for PS+ and even argued for why paying for online was necessary.
So I expect the same to happen. When this is people complaining about a price increase a opposed to being against paying for online I expect people to keep financially supporting the subscription model enough for Sony to keep moving forward and be happy with the money.
I was upset when games like world of warcraft were charging for online play. I could see it back then that companies would charge you multiple times just to play games.
**** subscriptions in general now a days… Seems like everyone wants a monthly payment of off You ( sorry if my grammar is wrong) .
No.
